News and Me

Question for week 4 task is “how often do you read news?”. Well, how often do I read news?

When I’m still in Jakarta, my family subscribes the daily newspaper and my father said to my sister and me that everyday we have to always AT LEAST browse through the pages and read the headlines and tittle, so we know what’s going on. It has become my habit every morning before I go to school, the paper always in the dining table and I skim through it and read the news that interests me while eating my nice breakfast my mom made. And also at night, my father and mother like to watch the evening news and sometime I sit with them. Well, telling this story makes me miss home a little bit, hiks :’( .

Now, I’m not home anymore. I don’t subscribe to the daily newspaper, there’s nobody here to remind me to read it like my father did, and nobody’s preparing breakfast for me to enjoy while I’m reading it! Hahahaha… I know that’s shouldn’t be a reason. But thank God to the high speed internet and blackberry on my hand, I have e-newspaper! Yeaay! However, for me, reading news from internet is not as convenience as read it in the paper. I like it better from the paper. Well, at least it keeps me update about what’s going on.

I rarely watch the news on tv when I’m in Indonesia, even less here. I know more about what’s going on in Indonesia than in Malaysia, because I prefer to read Indonesian news. But I try to be updated about news and current events in Malaysia and all around the world, at least the big one. I try to still follow my father’s advice.

I think it’s very important to be update. It’s good for my own so I have more open minded and intelligent mind. Moreover, I study in international university and my friends is from everywhere around the world. So I can have nice conversation with them and I know what’s going on in their country. And honestly, I don't want to look or feel stupid when people talk about something that I don't know about.
